Prince Charles Philip Arthur George was born at Buckingham Palace on 14 November 1948.  The eldest son of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles is the Heir to the Throne.  His official title is His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Chester, Earl of Carrick, Earl of Merioneth, Baron of Renfrew, Baron Greenwich, Lord of the Isles, Prince and Great Steward of Scotland, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, CC, PC, ADC.

Prince Charles attended Hill House School in London, Cheam Preparatory School in Berkshire, Geelong Grammar School in Australia, and Gordonstoun in Scotland, where he became Head Boy.  Prince Charles then attended Trinity College, Cambridge,  during his first year, studying archaeology, anthropology, and history.   He then attended the University of College of Wales, where he studied Welsh history and language.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge in 1970 and was awarded a Master of Arts degree at Cambridge in 1975.

Prince Charles served in both the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy.  He received training as a jet and helicopter pilot, eventually piloting numerous aircraft, including jet engine, multi-engine, twin-propeller, and helicopters.  During his naval career, Prince Charles served in the 845 Naval Air Squadron and aboard the HMS Norfolk, HMS Minerva, and MHS Jupiter.  He commanded the minehunter HMS Bronington during the final months of his naval service.

Prince Charles is heavily involved in philanthropic endeavors, serving as president of sixteen charitable organizations under The Prince’s Trust.  He is a patron of over four hundred charities, supporting education, youth, environmental issues, the arts, the elderly, medicine, human rights, economic equality, sustainable design, restoration of historic buildings, elimination of racial discrimination, and the disabled.

Prince Charles has been married to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, since 2005.  He is the father of Prince William and Prince Harry.
